History of the Nike Swoosh

Even though the Nike symbol is so iconic and recognizable today, designer Carolyn Davidson was paid only $35 for this logo design in 1971, and she was a college student at the time. The logo is conceptual too--it's meant to represent Nike, the winged Greek goddess of victory. Davidson said she that at initially, she was struggling to create a logo that conveyed motion. The photo above shows some of Davidson's original sketches.
