De Lo Mio Nike Campaign

Last year, Nike released a pair of Air Force 1s titled "De Lo Mio," (which means of my own in Spanish, a Dominican phrase that refers to one's own community). The Air Force 1s became a staple sneaker in New York City, and have continued to be a staple, especially in Uptown, which has a high population of Dominicans. The sneaker pays homage to this community by using the colors of the Dominican Flag as well as having the "De Lo Mio" phrase on the outsole. In my opinion, the sneakers are not even the best part of this project. My favorite thing about this project is that Nike gave six NYC-based Dominican photographers to execute photography campaigns for the sneaker. It was really interesting to see the ways in which each photographers' shoots differed and were similar. For example, a few of the photographers had a familial element to them. Another shoot included models who were transgender or nonbinary. All in all, it was interesting to wonder how different these photoshoots would have came out had the Nike team been fully in charge of them.
