Consumerist Artwork
I came across this piece online that really stood out to me. The space is very cramped and crowded, but something about the piece caught my eye and reminded me of a very extreme version of my bed in kindergarten, covered in stuffed animals. The piece, by Portia Munson, was designed to comment on wasteful consumption and consumerism--along with gendered marketing. The room is filled with manufactured goods, wilting flowers, dresses, pink-tinted lights, stuffed animals, lace, etc. Viewers can walk through and explore all the complex elements of the room. Here's a link to read Munson's statement about this piece: http://www.portiamunson.com/installations/the-garden.php
